Tuscany Wedding at Castello di Modanella

Tuscany Wedding at Castello di Modanella

Family ties are an important part of the Italian culture and tradition. No matter if you come from a small family or a large one with many aunts and cousins, Italians love parties and love to celebrate the important moments of life, especially the wedding day. A traditional Italian wedding usually involves inviting lots of relatives and friends, serving the finest Italian foods and then endlessly dancing until late in the morning.

The wedding of Ara and Donny was no exception to this tradition: a large family celebration with over 100 guests in an extraordinary venue: Castello di Modanella immersed in the Tuscan countryside. Ara and Donato are an Australian couple, both of Italian origin, and have lots of friends both in Italy and in Australia. Their wedding was also meant to be a family reunion with Italian and Australian friends: that’s why they chose Tuscany with its relaxed landscapes and romantic scenery.

Castello di Modanella, located near Siena, is a medieval castle that can be reached only after 3 km of dirt road among the Tuscan hills. The owners are also winemakers and olive oil producers. The castle can host up to 150 guests inside the manor house and the nearby farmhouses, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and lawns with two garden pools, making it the ideal location for couples who want to celebrate together with family and friends.

The celebration lasted three whole days, with a welcome dinner on the first day, on the second day the catholic ceremony held in the castle church of San Giovanni Battista, followed by a sumptuous banquet in the castle courtyard, and a farewell barbecue party by the pool on the third day, the final touch to make this celebration unforgettable.

These three days of celebration were not only family friendly, relaxed and incredibly funny, but also full of personality and elegance, thanks especially to the bride Ara. She is an architect full of creativity, very attentive to style and design. She wanted a dramatic effect of great impact for the entire decoration. We worked side by side with Tommaso Torrini of La Rosa Canina to create a style in harmony with the medieval architecture of the castle with its stone walls, arches and crenels. The color palette was made of jewel tones: deep reds and dark greens that give a rich, baroque flavor to the imposing tablescape created for the wedding banquet.

The reception setting combined naked tables and mismatched vintage chairs. The menus were printed on linen placemats: this was also meant as a keepsake of the wedding for the guests. Every single piece of furniture, both for the reception and the lounge areas, was rented for the occasion in order to create a unique style.
