One time this walled town was surrounded by 72 towers. During the middle ages it was the status symbol for noble families to build personal towers for protection and as a proof of their wealth and power.

Rich in art and history San Gimignano is a pleasure to wander…do not miss to visit the Romanesque Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta which is a treasure trove of fine frescoes. The views from the Torre Grossa, the biggest tower in town, are absolutely breathtaking.
