It is built within the Sasso family’s private 12th century villa, which was a favourite romantic hideaway of Ingrid Bergman and Roberto Rossellini. Richard Wagner too loved this villa and in 1880 wrote part of the Parsifal while a guest here. The villa had lain empty for several years until a creative entrepreneur converted it into an opulent, world-class, luxury hotel. Many architectural features, vaulted ceilings, marble floors and Moorish shaped windows, are enhanced by the predominantly white and gold surroundings and accented by priceless antique pieces. This is considered to be one of the most beautiful hotels of the world.
